JARC President AK5J reports from Jackson that the 2025 ARRL Day in the
Park was held on Saturday, October 18, at Old Trace Park on the Barnett
Reservoir in Ridgeland. The host club was the Jackson Amateur Radio
Club. Ridgeland Parks and Recreation allowed the use of their
Recreation Center at the Park which turned out to be an excellent venue.
There was a good turnout for the event. Forums were presented on DMR
by KD4VVZ, on the Mississippi ARES reorganization by KC5IMN, and on FRS
and GMRS by W5VMS. K5XU was recognized and given awards for working the
most counties during the Mississippi QSO Party and also for the highest
score in Hinds County. At noon W5XX gave an update on important ARRL
matters followed by door prizes. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a fun
time of fellowship, informative forums, and also the beautiful scenery
and great weather.
WJ5K reports that the Tupelo ARC hosted a great Papa Jack’s Trade Day
at the Gateway Pavilion in Pontotoc on Saturday October 18. Five
vendors were on site including Chatt Radio, FatCat Parts, EFactor
Antennas, Cablehelp Antennas, and AF5PO Enterprises. The grand prize
winner was won by KE5HJN, who took home a new ICOM IC-7100 donated by
Chat Radio.
The Section Website has a listing of repeaters in Mississippi. In
general, listings are notoriously inaccurate. For the past six months
Edward, K5VOK, has been going through the 2M repeater listing on the
Website to verify that the information is correct. In spite of
attempting to make contact with the listed POCs, he has found that of
the 101 repeaters listed that only 48 responses have been received
saying that the website listing is correct or providing updated
information. Not good. Does this mean that 53 of the repeaters are not
on the air anymore or the POC has disappeared or the antenna fell of the
tower? Maybe so.
Please review the list of repeaters on the Website indicating that there
was no response to an information query from K5VOK, and if you have any
potential contact or update information, please send this to Edward at
eliving1@comcast.net
From AK5J. At the suggestion of Frank Howell, K4FMH, the Jackson Amateur
Radio Club applied for a $3,000 grant from the ARRL Foundation to
purchase Ham Radio equipment to be used to establish a Ham station at
the Madison County Library. K4FMH had previously established a very
good relationship with the library leaders and had interested them in
setting up a station at the library. The grant was approved, and the
money was used to purchase an Icom IC-300 Transceiver and two Yaesu
FTM-300D digital transceivers and related equipment.
Shortly after the equipment was presented to the library, Tamra Bates of
the Madison County Library obtained her ham call of KJ5KEX, and her
husband, Tab, received his call of KJ5JRK. The library also allowed
JARC to conduct technician classes and VE sessions at the library branch
in Madison. AC5Z and AE5SK have been in charge of these events which
have resulted in a number of new Hams.
In addition to the Ham equipment, JARC has also purchased two 3-D
printers for the library. The Madison County Library has had exhibits
at the last two Hamfests in Jackson and will also be at the upcoming
Hamfest on January 30 and 31, 2026. Other Hams who worked on this
library project were K5MPM and AK5J.
From KG5YEE in Vicksburg. On October 11, Vicksburg ARC handled radio
communications for Over the River Run, a fund raiser for Southern
Cultural Heritage Foundation. The race is a 5-mile run/walk over the
Mississippi River bridge into Louisiana and back again. Radio operators
participating were: KC5IBO, AF5OQ, KC5IMT, KG5YEE, KG5OVR, N5JGK,
N5KWT, and W5WAF, and W5VMS, who walked the route with his radio.
Haven’t sent in your letters to your Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith
and your house representative to support the ARRL HOA initiative ? Hams
and GMRS users can go to https://www.arrl.org/current-legislation to
originate letters. It just takes a minute!
…. And in DEC/EC reports from around the state
From Yalobusha County AEC KD5NDU reports that the Water Valley repeater
is now able to link with Memphis NWS service and the Allstar network for
times of severe weather as well as the Hams over IP phone service.
From Adams County EC WJ5ES has exciting news from Southwest Mississippi!
Many of the local hams are in the process of acquiring a 400 ft tower
with all infrastructure where they will be coordinating, installing, and
getting two new repeaters (2M and 70CM) on the air. A new club is being
formed to administer and maintain these repeaters. The footprint from
these new repeaters should extend well south into Louisiana and north to
almost Vicksburg. They are looking forward to the possibility to
include a new ARES net on these repeaters that will cover much of the
Miss-Lou area. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Contact
WJ5ES for more information.
From EC KD5KMO in Chickasaw County. ARES is working on compiling
contact information for previous members so they can start club meetings
again.
From Leake County EC KG5OVS. During the last two ARES Nets they have
had a substantial increase in check-ins.
From Lowndes County EC K5TCO. Four ARES members participated in the BSA
Jamboree on the Air at Columbus Lock and Dam.

Welcome to the following new Hams in Mississippi in November: No report
due to Government Shutdown.
ARRL Membership in Mississippi on November 1 was 811 up 8 from last
month. WOW! Maybe the worst is over. This increase is largely attributed
to members, who in the past have let their membership lapse for many
reasons, and have decided there is more to an ARRL Membership than a
monthly magazine.
Welcome to AG5ND as DEC for the North Mississippi District and KI5CSG as
EC for Monroe County.
