Mississippi Hams in Action!!!

Without new Hams coming into our hobby we would go the way of the dinosaurs in a couple of decades. In Mississippi several clubs conduct classes and offer VE Test Sessions (see list on this website under the “VE Testing” tab). The Olive Branch ARC operated Field Day from City Hall. Wanting to have a big FD signal they put up some serious hardware with their trailer mounted tower and tribander. The Pine Belt ARC operated the W0W Special Event Station as part of the University of Southern Mississippi\'s Powwow to celebrate American Indian Heritage. Project Coordinator N5CW reports that W0W made 2690 contacts by operators on the air from their homes working all states and 76 countries. On the last day of the event W0W was setup on campus with seven PBARC members operating and several visitors stopping by the station for questions about Ham Radio. (photo provided by N5CW)

W5UE coordinated Mississippi\'s fall ARRL W1AW/5 VOTA activity. Here Randy operates CW during the event. In all 13 Mississippi operators stepped up to support the event by operating CW/SSB/Digital from their home stations signing W1AW/5. A total of 690 CW, 970 SSB and 1777 Digital QSOs were made for a total of 3,437 from 160M to 70CM (Photo by W5UE\'s XYL Kathy)
