Without new Hams coming into our hobby we would go the way of the dinosaurs in a couple of decades. In Mississippi several clubs conduct classes and offer VE Test Sessions (see list on this website under the "VE Testing" tab). The details for 2024 Mississippi QSO Party have been wrapped up. The results have been sent out via email and certificate and plaques are traveling via snail mail. The Mississippi Coast ARA (W5SGL/5) operated portable this year resulting in winning a certificate for first place multi-op in Harrison County. The International Space Station visited Mississippi on August 22. Bayou Academy in Cleveland, MS was selected to participate in the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program. Bayou Academy hosted the historic event supported by a collaborative effort involving members from MSU ARC, the Magnolia ARC, and the Lowndes County ARC. George County ARES recently hosted the local Civil Air Patrol Squadron for a briefing on Ham Radio. In the photo a CAP cadet talks with K5YVA in Sumrall on the DMR repeater system in George County about being a cadet and his future plans regarding a career. (Photo provided by KD4VVZ)
In preparation for hurricane season Emergency Coordinator WX5RJ has appointed four new Assistant Emergency Coordinators (AEC) to help him at the Harrison County EOC during a hurricane landfall.
